Local Hawai'i papayas
...I am in Hawai'i! Landed earlier this afternoon. It was such a tussle to get here. I nearly missed my NYC -> Chicago flight when I fell asleep (go figure) in the wrong terminal. In Chicago I was on the phone trying to negotiate for accepted offers on two sales (this never fails to happens just when you're about to leave town). Chili's in the United terminal was the only spot where my phone could get reception. I did all my calls there, over baked potato skins, lost track of time until I heard a "paging MISS CHAN." And then it was nine hours of constant dizziness and headache. I am a terrible flying companion.
Super thanks to:
1. Shann's company, SwaySpace for hosting a wonderful holiday dinner party at Blue Ribbon in Brooklyn last night. I haven't left Blue Ribbon so stuffed in my life. Fried chicken, bone marrow, raw oysters, fried oysters, wine, mashed potatoes, bread pudding, profiteroles, chocolate bruno, smoked fish, escargot, and lots of good company :)
2. Mark, the kind guy seated next to me in the Chicago -> Hawai'i flight, who offered both food and Advil. Sorry I was not more conversational - I can't do much on plane rides except to sit there, very dizzy, and very pale and non-functional.
But I'm in Hawai'i now and it feels all wonderful and warm :) Mom and sister picked me up from the airport. We stopped off at Marukai and Costco for groceries, then headed home for a simple dinner.
I caught a cough/cold from someone and craved simple soup-y food. Grandma dropped off fresh wontons and we had that with my mom's chicken and five spice broth.
Cups of sweet ginger tea to follow and fresh local papayas. Clean food. I eat so well in Hawai'i :)
