San Francisco VII: Sausalito and Sushi Ran

On Saturday morning, Carey (who was visiting her family for the week) invited Monsieur P and I for breakfast at Il Cane Rosso. Carey scored an excellent table, outside facing the water...sigh, nothing like this in NYC ;). Perfect 80 degree weather. We shared all four breakfast options which change on a daily basis, including housemade yogurt and fried egg sandwiches.

The restaurant was located in the Ferry Building, and conveniently enough, the hotel Monsieur P booked for the week was only a five minute walk away! This proved to be an excellent idea because we visited the Ferry Building multiple times a day during our stay, heehee.

Post-breakfast we took our daily coffee at Blue Bottle, also in the Ferry Building...man is their New Orleans-Style Iced Coffee ($3.50) INSANELY GOOD.

We spent the next hour perusing though the Saturday Farmer's Market (also in, you guessed it, the Ferry Building!), making our way through a basket of strawberries...

...and then hopping on the ferry to Sausalito. The ferry docks from the Ferry Building and it is a truly beautiful 30 minute ride to this picturesque waterfront town. We did a lot of walking around the water, touristy yes, but peaceful at the same time. I'd love a vacation home here ;)

Take a closer look at the picture. Can you see the four or five rock 'towers'? There's a guy in Sausalito known as the 'rock man,' (though his real name is Bill Dan) and everyday he assembles these delicately balanced towers from all the rocks along the water. Pretty neat, huh?

In the early afternoon, we headed off the main streets to Sushi Ran on Caledonia Street.

The restaurant offers some pretty stellar lunch specials which we made sure to take advantage of. Our meals began with a bowl of miso soup. Monsieur P had the Chirashi Bowl ($19.50)...

...while I went with the Sushi Set ($18.50). A stellar, light lunch. Quality sushi for a price that would be much higher in the evenings. After lunch we tried to visit Alta Mira restaurant, an good spot for afternoon drinks and gorgeous views of the city. We walked uphill a bit to get there, but when we arrived, something looked off. There was a gate in front of Alta Mira and it stated, private entry only! Had someone turned the restaurant into a private home??

A quick search on our phones revealed quite the surprise...Alta Mira the restaurant had turned into Alta Mira Rehab!

Well, there goes our afternoon prosecco plans! Not to worry, dinner that evening would be at Nopa..another post to come soon.

Hope you are having a great week :)
