Lunchtime @ Bo Ky

This is what I eat for lunch three times a week. Bo Ky on the corner of Mott and Bayard. One order of the wonton mein + tax + tip sets me back only $5. Perfectly reasonable. Of every single restaurant in New York, there is none I have eaten at more frequently.

This is my favourite wonton mein in Chinatown, but I have more than a few biases:
- it was the first restaurant I ever dined at in NYC
- the owner's father's father cousin is friend of my grandfather. Or something incredibly distant like that. They only know me as that girl who comes in by herself all the time ^_^
- that little jar of housemade SAUCE on every table. Nutty, a bit spicy, hot oil...you ought to try it for yourself. Mix it with my noodles, the soup...anything.

At dinner, I order the chicken curry funn or the satay noodles. But during the day I keep it simple (and clean/splatter friendly) with wonton mein.

Now that they've opened a second location on Grand Street, this one has quieted down the during the noon lunch rush. Some of my favourite servers from this location moved over to the new location. But my super super favourite is still here. Everything is just dandy.

Shots from...

...a lovely, over the top generous dinner at Montenapo, hosted by the managing partner Jozef Juck (who I have to say, is an incredible person!)

We came hungry and left satisfied with full bellies and big smiles. Happy? Oh yes. Very much so ^_^
Our meal began (as all meals in the dream world would) with champagne and bread. Precisely, a basket full of baguettes, warm focaccia, and herbed breadsticks, all baked in-house.
For appetizers we shared the burrata with prosciutto, baby arugula, marinated organic cherry tomatoes, and extra virgin olive oil...
...and the carpaccio with fresh herbs and black peppercorn. The carpaccio was served with polenta crackers, field greens, aged parmesan, dijon mustard and celery sauce.
All the pastas are made in-house, which is an impressive feat considering the variety on the menu. We went with the tris, a tasting of three pastas of our choice. There was first the Spaghetti - with sea urchin, cured mullet "bottarga", garlic, spicy pepper and olive oil. And then, Agnolotti - filled with braised veal cheecks, served atop celery root puree and veal stock reduction...
...and finally, my favourite, the Tagliatelle - with Maine lobster, chervil, dry vermouth, tomatoes, chiodini mushrooms and a light lobster bisque.
Post-pasta we shared a meaty dish of Capretto - slow braised goat shoulder with fresh thyme sea salt and white wine, served with spinach gnochetti & wild mushrooms.
And for dessert? A trio of sweets including...
...tiramisu - lady fingers soaked in double espresso, and layered with mascarpone cheese...
...Giorno E Notte - black and white chocolate mousse served with acai berry infusion...
..and last but not least, Soffiato Al Cioccolato - a flourless chocolate soufflé and freshly whipped cream.

Afterwards. A big thank you, and an cool evening walk home - very necessary to digest ^_^
