Weekend, Whew :)

Cheers to a lovely and calm weekend.

Saturday coffee at Abraço with Lauren, shopping and afternoon cookies. A brand new rabbit fur beret from Barbara Feinman, and late night tapas with P at Alta. Dangerously potent sangria, warm mushroom salad, lamb meatballs, tuna tartare, skirt steak over chimichurri, and a parmesan potato puree. Ricotta fritters, ricotta fritters!! What a city.

Sunday coffee at Everyman and lunch at Mercadito with Don. Pineapple in guacamole, who knew! An afternoon of showing apartments in the West Village and cleaning my apartment in the East Village. Hopefully I will be lucky enough to, eventually, some day, one day, have a place with an extra bedroom to store these hats I have collected. Till then, said hats shall be hung along wall hooks.

Now it's off to a Korean dinner with Shann and Darien. Happy Sunday :)

Mitzy came by with macarons...o_O!

I'm sure you have not forgotten about Mitzy, the amazing woman behind Itzy Bitzy Patisserie. She moved back to Indonesia last summer, and along with her left the best macarons in NYC. Well guess what? She came back for a short visit a few weeks back, and we finally meet up yesterday afternoon along with Tina. It has been a long long time since I've seen Mitzy, so you can imagine how lovely it was when the three of us sat down for sweets at Lady M. Afternoon coffee and tea, mille crepe, matcha cake, and a banana mille feuille wedge (goodness, the cream custard on this was ridiculous, whipped with a little cream, fresh bananas tucked between chilled layers) shared between three.

The first thing Mitzy did when she walked in was gift us with boxes of fresh macarons. Happiness!! That's vanilla in the middle sandwiched by chocolate-orange on the bottom and chocolate on the top. Still the best in town :)

[Mitzy's will be back in NYC from May-July and will be selling her macarons during those months...will keep you posted!]

Forbidden Planet

Yesterday afternoon I stopped by Forbidden Planet, my neighborhood comic book shop. On the agenda: Betty & Veronica Double Digest #177. They was but one copy remaining and it was pretty beat up with the cover all bent and everything. One of the guys working there offered to check for back stock, but that was all they had left :(

So we started talking about Archie comics. Back in November 2009, they had a big window display with HUGE originals of various Archie strips. The display was only up for a month, and then disappeared.

“What happened with those originals?”
“Still down in the basement. I have my eye on one of them, but I’m not sure what we’re doing with the rest...”
“Oh?? Would you...perhaps...maybe...possibly...sell it to me?”
“Let me check!”
And then he disappeared down to the basement. And came up ten minutes later. With one of the BIG BIG originals.
“This is for you!” he said with a smile. And then handed it over.
“Can I buy it from you?”
“Nope. You can just have it!”
“Just have it?”
“Yup!”

I was in HEAVEN.

Good thing I live close by. I carried it back to my apartment and man, was it windy yesterday! I just missed the rain too. Perfect, perfect. And then it was off for an early dinner with P at Grand Sichuan...sautéed pea shoots, hot oil dumplings, and garlic shrimp! Happy Wednesday :)
